Wednesday, May 1

Arrive at the Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, and then travel to Jerusalem to check into our hotel in Jerusalem.  After dinner, we will visit the Western or Wailing Wall, the holiest site to modern Judaism.  Here we will travel underground as we walk through the Western Tunnel, a tunnel that exposes the Western Wall of the temple complex at the time of Jesus.

Thursday, May 2
Jerusalem, Israel

Our focus on this day will primarily be Old Testament Jerusalem. In the morning, we will focus on the City of David.  We will be sure to view David’s Palace (and Area G).  We will then walk through the Canaanite tunnel OR wade through Hezekiah’s tunnel and then visit the Pool of Siloam.  After lunch, we will examine a portion of Hezekiah’s wall. Our day will conclude with a visit the North Excavations (Ophel). Here we will sit upon the very steps Jesus would have walked when entering the Temple Mount and observed the recently discovered Solomonic gate!


Friday, May 3

The morning will begin with a bus ride to the top of the Mount of Olives—the location where our Lord ascended into Heaven. From the Mount of Olives, we will take in a breathtaking view of the city across the Kidron Valley to the Eastern (Golden) Gate where Jesus will enter in the future. As we take the Palm Sunday Road, we will pass by the Pater Noster Church and visit Dominus Flevit where “the Lord wept” as he beheld the city. We will then stop at the Garden of Gethsemane for a time of reflection.  We will then walk across the Kidron Valley into the Old City to visit St. Anne Church and the Pool of Bethesda.  After lunch, we will visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.  We will then conclude the day with a visit to the beautiful Garden Tomb where many people believe is the site of Jesus’ place of crucifixion, burial, and resurrection.  We will have a special communion service to celebrate the Lord’s victory over death.

Saturday, May 4

Jerusalem, Israel

In the morning we will travel by bus to visit Bethlehem.  On the way, we will pass by Herod the Great’s burial place and former citadel—the Herodium.   From there we will visit the Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Museum.  After which, we will view one of the finest, if not the finest, holdings of biblical artifacts, at the Israel Museum, the model of first-century Jerusalem, and the Shrine of the Book.

Sunday, May 5

Via bus, we will travel to the Dead Sea and environs. We will then explore Masada. This 1,500-feet mountaintop fortress was built by King Herod the Great, and served as the last stronghold of the Jewish rebellion against the Romans in AD70. We will ascend and descend via cable car and explore the first-century synagogue, Herod’s bathhouse, and many other significant sites. After lunch, we will the opportunity to swim in the Dead Sea or should we say float in the Dead Sea!  Later we will visit the site of Qumran, an ancient Essene community and where the Dead Sea Scrolls were hidden. As we continue back to the Old City, we will stop at Jericho and view the fallen walls of the ancient city destroyed during the time of Joshua and explore Herod the Great’s summer palace. From there we will travel a portion of the Jericho Road as we return to Jerusalem.

Monday, May 6

Tiberias, Israel

After an early breakfast, we will head north to Tiberias along the Mediterranean coast.   Our first stop will be the incredible ruins of Caesarea Maritime.  Built by Herod the Great, this city was the center of the early Christians. Here Cornelius the Centurion and his household were saved and baptized, and it was also here where Paul made his defense before Festus and King Agrippa prior to his final journey to Rome.  From there we will proceed to Mount Carmel.  This site is where Elijah issued his challenge to the false prophets of Baal.  From Mount Carmel, we will have a breath-taking view of the Jezreel Valley from the south.  After lunch, we will proceed to Megiddo.  We will then cross the Jezreel Valley stopping at Nazareth Precipice for another incredible view of the Jezreel Valley from the north.  We then travel to Tiberias to check into our hotel.

Tiberias, Israel

We will spend this day exploring the Sea of Galilee and the Golan Heights. We will begin by visiting Hazor, the city burned by Joshua.  From there we will travel to Dan, the place of early apostasy in Israel.  After lunch, we will visit Banias, or ancient Caesarea Philippi, the site of Peter’s Confession.  On the way back to our hotel, we will visit Bethsaida, the hometown of Peter, Andrew, and Philip, and one of the locations of Jesus’ miracles.

Wednesday, May 8

Today’s portion of the tour will focus on sites located around the Sea of Galilee.  We will begin by visiting the recently excavated site at Magdala.  We will be sure to view the first-century synagogue.  From there, we will visit the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount.  We will then proceed to Capernaum, the city where Jesus spent most of his Galilean ministry and the home of Peter’s mother-in-law. We will be sure to explore the synagogue and other relevant first-century artifacts.  After Capernaum, we will have lunch near the Sea of Galilee enjoying a St. Peter’s fish!  After lunch, we will have an opportunity to swim in the Sea of Galilee.  Later in the afternoon, we will make our way to Kurzi, the supposed site where Jesus cast the demons into pigs.  From this ancient Byzantine ruins, we we have a time of worship.  After which, we will continue our journey around the Sea of Galilee as we return to Tiberias.

Thursday, May 9

After breakfast, we will board a wooden boat for one of life’s most memorable events–a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee!  We will have a brief service while out on the Sea.  We will then visit the Kibbutz Nof Geonsar and see the “Jesus Boat”—a 2,000 year-old fishing boat discovered in 1986.  We will then enjoy a spectacular view of Israel from the sky!  You and your group will board two large luxury helicopters for an incredible flight over Israel.  This excursion also includes jeep rides in the Golan Heights and a catered lunch by one of Israel’s finest chefs.  The helicopter ride will end in Tel Aviv.  From there, we will enjoy a bit overview of the city prior to having a memorable farewell dinner.

Friday, May 10

We will arrive home physically exhausted but spiritually refreshed!!
